Three City Agencies to Come to Williamsburg TODAY to Help New Yorkers with Difficulties Paying their NYC Bills

The United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg (UJO) in cooperation with NYC Councilman Steve Levin, the New York City Departments of Finance (DOF), Housing and Preservation Development (HPD) and Environmental Protection (DEP), have arranged for these three agencies to come to one location in Williamsburg today. The agencies will work with people having trouble paying their bills to these agencies by creating payment plans and making corrections on bill discrepancies before any liens are placed on a property. Bills that are not settled by May 7th can be sold by the City to a collection agency, which will be much harder to negotiate a favorable payment arrangement with.

Families that are having trouble paying NYC Property Tax payments to DOF, DEP Water Bills, or fees for HPD violations will have an opportunity to speak first hand with representatives of these agencies to work out payment plans before their delinquency will result in losing their property to be sold in a lien sale. This is also an opportunity for people to bring any questions or concerns they may have directly to these agencies.

The President of the UJO, Rabbi David Niederman said “We are extremely appreciative to Williamsburg Councilman Steve Levin for his tremendous efforts in making today’s event possible. Creating this “One-Stop” opportunity for people to be able to have direct access with three City Agencies at one time, will be a big boost to families who are behind in their payments to the City and who desperately need to get a handle on their bills before it’s too late. We are also very thankful to the City agencies for agreeing to come after work hours so people would not have to miss work to attend this important event and have to travel to three different offices.”
When: Wednesday, April 28, 2010
