Disgraced former New York governor Elliot Spitzer says he’s unsure whether he’ll vote for Andrew Cuomo if he decides to throw his hat into the governor’s race.
In a critical assessment of the attorney general and possible candidate for governor, Spitzer told Sam Roberts of the New York Times and host of NY1’s “Close Up” that he has concerns about Cuomo’s ability to stand up to the special interests.
The so-called “Sheriff of Wall Street” also faults his successor as attorney general for not aggressively taking on the financial industry.
“It’s easy to be tough if the selection of one’s target is driven by politics,” Spitzer said. “The real test is, do you take on the battles that are both unpopular, and perhaps seem impossible to win but are important to take on.”
Spitzer suggests Cuomo is driven by political considerations and has a world view shaped by the culture of Albany.
A spokesman for Mr. Cuomo told The Times that the attorney general’s record, credibility and honor speak for themselves.
Cuomo has yet to declare a candidacy for governor, but he is widely expected to do so.
The relationship between the two Democrats has been strained since Cuomo’s investigation of Spitzer’s use of state police back in 2007.

Spitzer is the last person that has the right criticize an elected government official. Go hide under a rock somewhere, ’cause nobody wants to here from you anymore!
