President Barack Obama’s visit to Manhattan will cause traffic and transit disruptions Thursday.
President Obama will deliver a speech at Cooper Union’s Great Hall on Seventh St. between Third and Fourth Avenues about noon on Thursday. He’ll arrive at Kennedy Airport about 11 a.m., chopper into lower Manhattan, motorcade up the FDR Drive to the Houston St. exit and make his way to Cooper Union, the President’s only planned pit stop. (Air Force One is set to depart from Kennedy Airport about 1p.m.) The FDR Drive will be frozen in both directions from 23rd St. to South Ferry, so please avoid Alphabet City and the East Village. Stick with the West Side Highway until after 1 p.m.
Vice President Biden is also in town to appear on “The View” from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday. He’ll fly into LaGuardia Airport about 9:30 a.m. and motorcade via the RFK Bridge and the FDR Drive to the studios of ABC at 66th St. and West End Ave. Drivers will encounter sporadic delays, with Biden staying for lunch in midtown until about 3 p.m.
New Yorkers should expect delays on multiple bus routes in and around Cooper Union University, where the president will deliver a speech on financial reforms.
The M1, M2, M3, M8, M9, M14, M21, M101, M102 and M103 bus routes are expected to be delayed or rerouted.
Some subway entrances and exits could also be affected.
The delays and changes are expected to last from approximately 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Straphangers are advised to allow more time for travel.

#2 – Calm down. In the end it’s all going to be OK. Think of this as temporary situation. I have been through much worse in my life.
