[EXCLUSIVE VIDEO & PHOTO LINKS BELOW] David G. Greenfield was formally installed as the newest member of the city council in a council ceremony yesterday. On the advice of his posek, Greenfield “affirmed” the oath of office rather than “swear” it. In her warm introduction of him, the Speaker explained that most of her colleagues already knew Councilman Greenfield as someone who they called upon for guidance on complicated education policy and key Jewish issues. Upon his installation, Greenfield received a rousing standing ovation from all the members of the city council.
Despite being the newest member of the council, Greenfield, who is known for his expertise in public policy, was appointed to several of the most important council committees including: Education, Aging, Mental Health & Public Safety.
Councilman Greenfield’s first day was an eventful one, with the major $410 million Rose Plaza development in Williamsburg up for a vote. Greenfield voted in favor of the project citing his support of affordable housing projects (the project will create 800 new housing units in Williamsburg of which 30% will be affordable).
Greenfield is off to a running start – just this week he announced extended office hours. Greenfield’s office will now be open from 9am-6pm Monday – Wednesday (two hours longer), 12pm-9pm on Thursday (new evening hours) and 9am-3pm on Friday (open for the first time on this day). Greenfield will have a formal inauguration in the district within the next few weeks.

May he have Birkhas Hashem to be successful.
I can’t wait to meet him and ask that he deal with the horrible congestion and back up of vehicles waiting to turn onto Ocean Parkway! (Avenues I and J, in particular, are awful.) A simple, quick-fix would be to create a turning light for all vehicles waiting to turn onto Ocean Parkway. This issue was brought up many times before but Mr. Greenfield has a reputation to get things done!
You would need a turning lane then. I would recommend to start the green light first for going East (east 7th direction) and then after some time allow West bound traffic to go. The left lane going east bound has cars going making a left AND going straight. If you make it turn only, and there is a car that was planing to go straight, non-one will be able to turn.
Greenfield: In a short two months 100,000 frum jews will be sweltering in summer heat in the inner city without being allowed to cool off at the beach. You are on the committee for Aging, Mental Health & Public Safety. Well there is no question that not getting outdoors for exercise will hasten aging, deteriorate mental health especially for the children and will be hazardous to public safety if a teenager has to swim on off hours when there is no lifeguard. You are ignoring this main issue because you don’t want to sound like a nut job amongst the goyim. You are friends with the parks dept and have done nothing. You only like cutesy issues that goyim like to hear like parking cars. Stop wasting our votes. Don’t worry if the goyim think you are a religious fundamentalist. This is what is needed and it can easily be achieved. Ask for it today. Modest citizens need a half mile of separate swimming beaches. Do it now. Any fool who thinks this is trivial is because he goes to mixed beaches or has a pool. But the rest of real orthodox jews cannot. So enough with parking and don’t gloat if you get a million dollars for jews. This issue is worth a billion dollars. Start going to work for jews. There are ten major jewish polititians that have wasted our votes. the majority of congress is for israel we don’t need schumer for that. And you main purpose is to alleviate the plight of your fellow jews.
I’m not from Brooklyn but YWN makes me feel like I live there.
