Monsey: Child Services Notified After Child Falls Out Of Window

Monsey, NY – Police are notifying Child Protective Services after a 7-year-old boy fell out of a second-story window at Nissan Court shortly before 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Hatzolah EMS and paramedics responded to the scene.

Police say the boy was only slightly injured in the 10- to 12-foot fall after he was apparently able to open an unsecured window next to his bed.

Sgt. Rob Lancia said the boy and 14 of his siblings had been left in the care of his father after his mother had been hospitalized earlier in the day.

“To have a kid fall out of window we want somebody to look into it,” Lancia said. “We want to see if this a one-time accident or negligence.”

  1. bh our benovelent government hard at work again, punishing the family even more, hellllo has anyone heard of a unfortunate accident??

  2. excuse me but a 7 year old falls out of a window. Were not talking about a 1 year old.Something sounds fishy and something says to me that their was neglegence of some sort. One person can NOT physically be capable of looking after and accounting for 15 children.

  3. Oh come on. At least some of the 15 children are old enough not to need adult supervision, right? Unless we have five sets of triplets under age 14 here.

  4. #1 – “hellllo has anyone heard of a unfortunate accident”
Which part of “We want to see if this [was] a one-time accident or negligence” did you miss?

#2 – Yes, a 7 year old can fall out a window without anything “fishy” going on. And as #3 pointed out, if you have 15 kids chances are that not only will you not have to take care of more than 5 or 6 at a time, but the older kids normally help watch the younger kids.

  5. “he was apparently able to open an unsecured window next to his bed”. Anybody can do that! Why would it be negligance? Who would think that their own son would be so stupid?

  6. i work in a social service agency, and unfortunately it is very common to report cases to child protective services. they often do not amount to much beyond an investigation. we have to keep in mind that they are all for the welfare of our children and the one time that something is serious, they will be there to help the child get to a better place.

  7. A question here – was there a guard on the window? There have been real tragedies in Brooklyn with children falling out of high windows and not surviving, because the parents had neglected to put in window guards as per the law.

True, the second floor isn’t a high-rise, but the child wasn’t hurt only due to chasdei HaShem. A second story fall for a child could be quite serious.

There is nothimg wrong or surprising with checking up on the home situation. Many serious instances of abuse are detected this way and the child saved. In the case of this family, we assume that there was no wrongdoing or real negligence, but agencies have their rules which they have to apply without exception. Unfortunately, there are cases of child abuse in our community, so we can’t claim an exemption just because we’re religious.

  8. Kids will be kids. Just in this generation, unfortunately, you have to be nervous about letting them be kids, because maybe something will happen and you will be blamed for it. I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s B”H and I lived a carefree life without having my parents having to hover over me all the time to make sure nothing bad ever happened to me. It’s a wonder our kids can grow up at all nowadays without becoming neurotic.

  9. ywn don’t you think your picture is a bit misleading? you seem to be implying that the parents were responsible enough to have window guards on their windows.
