New York – David Greenfield was officially sworn in as a member of the New York City Council Wednesday morning by the City Clerk and began his term replacing former-Councilman Simcha Felder. Councilman Greenfield, who ran on a position to make New York more affordable, has already committed to tackle the rising cost of education, the inadequate resources made available to seniors, and the skyrocketing taxes, tickets, and fines that are hitting hard-working New Yorkers trying to make ends meet.
“From the day the people elected me, I committed to fight for the people. I will not stop until hard-working New Yorkers have a government that works for them,” said Greenfield.
Even before officially taking office, Councilman Greenfield has already hit the ground running. When Greenfield was notified of a tree pruning project that would displace hundreds of parked cars during the Pesach holiday, he was able to talk to the Brooklyn Parks Commissioner to delay the project so residents could enjoy the holiday without worrying about their vehicles. Additionally, Greenfield was able to arrange for pre-Pesach garbage pickup for residents living south of 60th Street, the first time residents in that area received the extra pickup. Yesterday, Councilman Greenfield joined Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) at the Boro Park Y to ensure everyone sends back their census forms to make sure the neighborhood, borough, and City receive the federal funds that it deserves. Last, earlier this week, Greenfield met with his colleagues in the City Council to develop a plan to save Section 8 housing vouchers.
“The time for politics is over. Every part of this district must now come together and fight for the needs of the entire district,” said Greenfield. “I look forward to working with each community to make sure everyone’s needs are met.”
Councilman Greenfield will be working for now out of former Councilman Felder’s office located at 4424 16th Avenue. The phone number is (718) 853 2704. “I want everyone to know, no matter the problem – big or small – we are here to help you,” Greenfield said. “Please stop by and visit us or call our office.”
Councilman Greenfield will be holding a public inauguration ceremony within the next few weeks. The date and location will be determined soon.
