Facebook Warning Users Of Password-Stealing Virus

Facebook is warning its 400 million users about an email virus that is stealing banking passwords and other sensitive information.

Facebook users are getting an email with a subject line that says “Facebook password reset confirmation customer support,” according to anti-virus software maker McAfee.

The content of the email urges the social network user that their password has been reset, and they need to click on the attachment for new login credentials.

Upon clicking on the attachment, users unknowingly, download several types of malicious software, including one that steals passwords.

McAfee says the virus has been on the rise since Tuesday and is spreading.

A Facebook spokesman did not comment on the specific case, but said that they posted an alert on their site on Wednesday to warn users about the toxic email.

McAfee estimates that hackers have sent the email to millions of Facebook users across the United States, Europe and Asia, since Tuesday.

The anti-virus maker suspects that this email virus will succeed in infecting millions of computers.

Facebook has advises users to just delete the email and to warn their friends about this virus.

  1. Another reason not to use such accounts if you do not avbsolutely need them for business or some other necessary purpose.

If it’s just to “have friends” there are other ways.

Also this is a reason to have your passwords written down or memorized, and not stored on yoru computer in your memory or emails or on your computer at all.

When the icon comes up that says “do you want your computer to remember this login?” (or some similar question) make sure you always click ‘no’.
