BREAKING: Pentagon on Lockdown After Two Officers Shot; Suspect in Custody

Two police officers were injured by a gunman firing shots outside the Pentagon tonight and a suspect was in custody, a police spokesman said.

Initially, hundreds of employees at the Pentagon were ordered to go into “Code Red” — the entire building locked down, with no one allowed to enter or leave. Later, people were allowed to leave the building through entrances other than the Metro entrance.

Pentagon police have a suspect in custody, at least three ambulances were on the scene, and all parking lots at the massive Defense Department headquarters were closed off, ABC News reported.

The shooting occurred at the Pentagon Metro Station, which is just outside the Pentagon’s main entrance.

The shots were fired at about 6:30 p.m. ET.

Sources tell YWN that the two officers shot are PFPA (Pentagon Force Protection Agency). Our source also notes that the station where the shooting occurred is strictly meant for the Pentagon – meaning there is no reason for anyone to use this station unless they had business at the Pentagon.

The condition of the officers are unknown at this time.

  1. “there is no reason for anyone to use this station unless they had business at the Pentagon.”

Not true. The Pentagon Metro Station is a public station and anyone can use it. There is a major Metrobus transfer station outside, and many people who do not have business at the Pentagon use the Metro Station to transfer to the bus and vice versa.

It’s also not clear that the officers shot were PFPA officers. PFPA officers are generally not at the Metro station, but at the building entrance and inside the building past the turnstiles (which require an ID or an officer to operate). Most of these officers are armed to the teeth and wear flak jackets. They are very serious about their job. You wouldn’t survive more than a few seconds if you were hostile with them.

I have an 11 am meeting in the Pentagon tomorrow. I hope it’s not postponed.

  2. Hundred bucks says the shooter is muslim (or, as our wonderful president would say, “isolated extremist”). Any takers?

  3. The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) confirmed that the officers shot were indeed PFPA officers, and their injuries are not life-threatening.

It will be interesting to see how the event transpired.

  4. Do not say the “M” word before we have more details, OK? WASPs can also be belligerent sometimes, as can Jews, Italians, Hispanics, blacks, Orientals, and others. Not just members of a faith started by Muhammad ibn Abd’allah.

I hope you are wrong. If you are wrong will you apologize for your comment? There are plenty of crazy white and black wackos walking around this country. No need to jump to conclusions.

  6. shazam,
be careful man, you might want to postpone any meeting for a couple of days…you never know if this was a first run terror attack to see how much damage could be done in a short time. these people are much much more clever than we give credit for…
    don’t go.

  7. The gunman who opened fire at the Metro entrance to the Pentagon has been identified as John Patrick Bedell.

At least the name isn’t muslim

  8. I’m busy writing Homeland Security grants & you’d be shocked at what my research pulls up. Don’t be so quick to dismiss TorahMosheEmess’s words so quickly. Of course there are crazies out there from white neo-Nazis to “Red Devils”, but when we think of potential terrorist attacks we think of Muslim extremists. That’s the reality of the world we live in.

  9. The guy seems to have been a WASP nut case.

He was dressed in a suit, so he didn’t arouse suspicion. He had 2 9mm automatic pistols and a bunch of magazines.

He was probably stopped outside the building entrance at the first checkpoint (which has metal detectors).

The Pentagon Metro is closed. I will walk about half a mile from the nearest open Metro station (Pentagon City).

  10. shazam, what are you doing posting on a public website that you are going to the Pentagon for a meeting? Have you ever heard of keeping things secret because it is a matter of national security?
