Scandal Brewing In Albany: Gov. Paterson Suspends Aide Over NY Times Probe

A scandal has rocked Gov. David Paterson.

Questions are being raised about his actions and those of the NY State Police in reportedly trying to stop a woman from following through on abuse charges against of one of Paterson’s top aides, David W. Johnson.

According to the New York Times, the governor spoke by phone to the woman the week before she was due in court to pursue the charges.

She never showed up.

The governor immediately asked his political rival, state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate Johnson.

Paterson has also asked the State Police to launch an internal investigation. The aide has been suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the probes.

In a statement Wednesday night, Gov. Paterson said “because of the seriousness of these allegations and the sensitive role of this staff member in my administration, I am asking the attorney general to investigate the matter.”
