Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has announced special accommodations for drivers whose Toyota vehicles will need to be repaired because of the recalls.
Under the agreement announced today, Toyota and Lexus dealers are offering services, including at-home pick-up and return of recalled vehicles, free rentals during the repairs and reimbursement for the cost of transportation.
Meanwhile, hearings are underway in Washington, D.C. on Toyota’s recent safety troubles.
Speaking in front of a panel in the House of Representatives, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood again urged drivers of the recalled vehicles to immediately contact their dealers.
LaHood also called for the passing of legislation that would give federal government safety oversight over transit.
The head of Toyota Motors, Akio Toyoda, is also set to testify today.
The grandson of the company’s founder is expected to apologize and accept full responsibility for decisions that led to the recalls of about 8.5 million vehicles worldwide.
Yesterday, the committee questioned James Lentz, Toyota’s president of U.S. operations, who repeatedly apologized for the safety defects and conceded the recalls may not totally solve the sticky gas pedal problems.

“…urged drivers of the recalled vehicles to immediately contact their dealers”
For what purpose? To have a “repair” done that even Toyota admits won’t fully solve the problem?
