City officials are trying to help families who had their Section 8 vouchers revoked late last year.
Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s office said the Department of Homeless Services is creating a million-dollar fund to help needy families seeking affordable housing.
The money will be coming from federal stimulus funds, according to Quinn’s office.
Back in December, nearly 3,000 families lost their Section 8 vouchers because of a shortage of federal funds. That led to criticism from housing advocates who want the city to give these families first priority for new vouchers.
