Airports in the New York City area have joined their counterparts farther south in cancelling many flights.
Delta Airlines has cancelled 900 Wednesday flights. United Airlines cancelled about 600 Wednesday flights. More than 1,000 flights on US Airways and its affiliate US Airways Express have been cancelled. Continental Airlines cancelled 850 flights while American Airlines and American Eagle cancelled about 500. Operations in the Washington area have been suspended. American’s operations in Philadelphia have ground to a halt and are expected to resume Thursday morning.
Runways remain open at New York-area airports, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, but the majority of flights have been cancelled.
