On Motzai Shabbos, Saturday, February 6th, 2010, Rabbi Shmuel Lefkowitz, Vice President of Agudath Israel, stood before and overflow crowd at the Belzer M’lava Malka, and told the people of the importance of registering to vote, and the urgency of actually going out to vote on March 23rd.
Joe Lazar was warmly introduced as the candidate of choice to fill the seat of outgoing City Councilman Simcha Felder. Rabbi Orlander, who introduced Lazar, said, “We don’t need change. Over the last year we’ve seen a lot of change and all our Mosdos are left with is change. We need continuity of service and Joe Lazar, the choice of the majority of the Mosdos Hatorah, and the choice of the Belzer Mosdos, will give us that continuity.”
Joe Lazar spoke before the gathering of over 1,000 Belzer Chasidim and told the audience, in a fluent Yiddish, how important the March 23rd Special Election for City Council is to the community. Lazar explained that the community’s political influence has suffered because of voter apathy in the past. He said that strong voter turnout in the Special Election will force the City Council to allocate more money for services in the community. “It is a fact that the community that votes the most gets the most City services,” said candidate Joe Lazar, an expert in New York City and State budgets. “If we don’t want budget cuts to our government-sponsored programs and we want the funding that will enable our community to grow and prosper in the future, we all must come out and vote on March 23rd.”
Lazar vowed that his offices will always be open to the Mosdos Hatorah and the entire community. He promised that he will be the Coucilman most responsive to the needs and concerns of community residents and that he will bring the same compassion and understanding that he has always shown to the chasidic community to his work at City Hall.

So now we all know for sure that Joe Lazar will not be our next Councilman, because of who ever Belz endorses loses.

whose choice ? dov hikinds choice , but that is not our choice .

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT JOE LAZAR HAS GOTTEN US .
See prior post of Aaron Kotler trying to “make nice” with Chris Christie…Shmuel Lefkowitz you’re next.
Why is the Agudah making the same mistake they made with Cuomo-Pataki??!
Joe Lazar has spent decades in government utilizing his positions to help our communiity, He secured affordable housing, funding for kids at risk and much much more. He is the choice of many mosdos because he has been there, knows how to cut through red tape, and will be a councilman that will make us proud
So many people in shul were talking about who they will vote for and one person piped up and said Joe Lazar is a nice guy.
Another person interjected and asked what does being nice have anything to do with a record that says something after 30 years?
Results is what people want. Mayor Guliani was not known to be nice guy but got things done.
Bloomberg is hated and is not nice but gets things done.
Greenfield has got things done and nobody even heard of him till three weeks ago. what impresses me about Greenfield is how he did things for so many communities and we never heard about it, never got mentioned in newspapers and got all the standing ovations.
Now we have a Greenfield running and Hikind is all nervous and yelling and screaming don’t vote for this guy!
I was not going to vote for greenfield but the more Hikind yelled and screamed I decided to look into his record and like I mentioned above it is pretty unbelievable for a young guy who came out of nowhere.
Greenfield has been interviewed by Fox, CNN, Hamodia, mishpacha magazine, MSNBC, and many other known news outlets. I don’t see anyone chasing Lazar for interviews and it’s probably because he has nothing exciting to say and it’s the same old mantra of lies that he will give you affordable housing and lower your taxes and give you tuition relief.
Bloomberg was asked on his campaign trail why he does not promise anyhting in regard to tuition vouchers and Bloomberg explained it is very difficult to just do things that are consituitional issues but he will try.
Bloomberg went on to say, and this was the best line and the most honest line I ever heard from a politician, “I would rather under promise and over deliver than over promise and under deliver.”
I write this and bring this into the discussion because we are tired of hearing the same old stuff about affordable housing in the frum communuity. We wish but it is not realistic and this is why Greenfield is not talking about those issues. What Greenfield and Caller have talked about the last month was stuff that is possible to achieve if they are given a chance.
This business of vote for me and I will lower your taxes and give free tuition and all this junk rehtoric is pure garbage.
Most people in my shul said they will vote for Greenfield.
A few administrators said the same thing but were pressed why they are publicly backing Lazar and they said what they say and what their hands do witht he lever is two different things!
Good luck to whomever wins.
Joe Lazar might very well have the right intentions. But he already made it clear that he will do what Dov Hikind wants him to do. He is being paraded around by the Agudah officials like a mascot. I am curious what kind of a back door deal were the Belze mosdos promised for this. They don’t realize that it’s a political game. David founded Teach NYS and anyone in the Chinuch knows what that is. No one did better for the Yeshivas then David. It is sad to see Agudah indorsing a candidate because they are themselves are pressured by Hiking and his Chicago style politics. Yes, Hiking is like the Clinton’s, he will destroy anything on his path. He will try to discredit anyone who is a threat to himself. Joe run on your own merits, and run far from Hikind.
i personally will definitely support greenfield against lazar, but if anyone from team greenfield is listening, i suggest they NOT abandon BP or the chasidisher oilom to lazar!!!! there are constant reports of lazar visiting chasidisher rebbes and chasidisher kehillos in BP; so far, I haven’t seen any of greenfield doing that… big mistake! don’t leave that front to lazar!!!!
