NJ Governor Chris Christie had some harsh words for commercial truck drivers, urging them to slow down and “not drive like idiots” while traveling through the State of New Jersey.
“We saw numerous accidents on the way down here (from northern Jersey), and we saw some commercial truck drivers driving like idiots,” he said. “They need to stop, stop going so fast, stop driving in a stupid way. They endanger road crews who are working and other drivers on the road.”
Dozens of accidents and spinouts have been reported, but no fatalities, state police said.
Christie, who was traveling across the state on the New Jersey Turnpike to assess the storm’s damage, praised the efforts of road crews who have been working since Friday night to keep major roadways passable. And he repeatedly urged residents to stay home so as not to impede their efforts.
“Try to stay inside, try to stay warm. Sunday will be a better day, so get ready to utilize the rest of your weekend,” he said.
Noting that thousands were without power in southern Jersey, Christie said he’s asked the state transportation department to work with officials there to help clear snow-covered roads. That will make it easier for utility crews to clear downed trees and access areas where repairs need to be made, he said.
Christie said he would travel Sunday to Atlantic and Cape May counties — among the hardest hit regions — to assess conditions and decide whether he should declare a state of emergency. But that decision will not be made until Sunday at the earliest, he said.

there is a simple solution to this problem . have roving state troopers with portable chicken coops in marked and unmarked cars following the road crews and you will see how fast these runaway truckers will slow down . not only that , but you will be killing two birds with one stone , because people driving cars will then slow down to.
The Governor must have been driving on the New Jersey Turnpike. It can get wild sometimes!
sorry mr governor but you sound a little like someone in Washington who commented on police officers near Boston who he said acted “stupidly.”
of course he was commenting on something out of his jurisdiction as opposed to you who are the governor of NJ.
Chill out Chris!
