Brooklyn, NY – Council hopeful David Greenfield huddled this afternoon with Brooklyn Democratic Party Chairman Vito Lopez and Deputy Mayor Kevin Sheekey to discuss the possibility of Mayor Bloomberg endorsing Greenfield’s bid to succeed Simcha Felder in the 44th CD.
The meeting took place in downtown Manhattan (not City Hall), according to sources familiar with the get-together.
The endorsement isn’t a done deal yet, but it is looking highly likely. When and if an official announcement comes, it won’t be an enormous surprise.
Greenfield already enjoys the support of former Mayor Ed Koch, a close Bloomberg ally. Also, a former Bloomberg aide, Mark Botnick, who was also at today’s meeting, is managing Greenfield’s campaign.
Bloomberg doesn’t have the greatest track record when it comes to the success of his endorsees, but his support in the 44th CD could have a big impact.
There was considerable pre-Election Day speculation about Bloomberg losing support among Orthodox voters in Brooklyn, who make up a significant portion of the 44th CD. But, the mayor performed strongly there on Nov. 3, winning more than 70 percent of the vote, which was slightly lower than his 2005 results, but still very high.
A Greenfield supporter noted that none of the candidates backed by Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who is working very hard for Joe Lazar and against Greenfield in the 44th CD special election, carried his district last fall – that includes Bill Thompson, Sen. Kevin Parker, Councilman Brad Lander and Comptroller John Liu.
Greenfield isn’t the only one working on his endorsements.
Lazar is poised to land the support of Lander and one of his 2009 primary opponents, John Heyer, who carried Borough Park last September.
Lazar was also endorsed by Sen. Diane Savino – who was for Greenfield until Seymour Lachman floated his name (he decided against entering the race yesterday) – Parker, who has made it clear his main goal is to keep Hikind happy, and Assemblymen Steve Cymbrowitz and Jim Brennan.

The shmuz in boro park (shomer shabas and the mikva) is that there is strong momentum for Greenfield and Lachman did not want to enter a tough race.
The Oilam is ecstatic that finally there is someone to take on the Hikind machine. A politician has to be someone who is here to serve us people not his own interests (or the machine’s, or Dov Hikind’s.)
The person behind Lazar is Hikind.
HIKIND HAS PRESSURED THE AGUDA THAT UNLESS THEY GET THE YESHIVOS TO BACK HIS CANDIDATE, HE WILL NOT DELIVER ONE MORE PENNY TO THEM. THIS AFTER HIM REPEATEDLY BEING MEVAZE THE GEDOLIM AND THE AGUDA ON HIS RADIO SHOW WITH RESPECT TO THE MARKEY BILL AND HIS INFLATED CLAIMS OF MOLESTATION.
Hikind claims that Joe Lazar has brought MILLIONS into the community “mosdos” over the past years. Why can’t the yeshivos make payroll?
SHOW US THE MONEY, in whose pocket did it go?
Does Hikind mean Ohel? Speak to Asher Lipner about Ohel. He used to work at Ohel.
Read Hamodia Magazine regarding record Poverty in Boro Park!
Ask Tomchei Shabas regarding record Poverty in Boro Park.
Ask Masbia regarding record Poverty in Boro Park!
We still have the KIDs @ Risk despite the millions that Dov claims to have received from Albany. In whose pocket did the money go?
Ask Asher Lipner, why he no longer appears on the Dov Hikind Show and no longer works for OHEL.
Dov, your gig is up. Time for change with proven results. DAVID CAN SHOW US THE MONEY, DOV CAN YOU?
By the way, Dov who pays for all those trips to Israel??
AND WHY DO YOU HAVE MILLIONS IN YOUR CAMPAIGN WAR CHEST THAT YOU TAKE WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVB OFFICE. YOU HAVEN’T HAD AN OPPONENT IN YEARS. WHY DO YOU HAVE FUNDRAISERS FOR “CAMPAIGNS”???
10.Greenfield is an experienced attorney with a successful history of community advocacay AND IS ABLE TO SHOW US THE MONEY THAT HE BROUGHT BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY. IT DID NOT GO TO HIS POCKET OR “FUNNELED TO HIS FRIENDS AND ORGANIZATIONS” WHO IN TURN MAKE “POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS” TO HIS “CAMPAIGN”.
David will do a great job for the PEOPLE OF HIS DISTRICT that he represents. He understands that he is paid by the taxpayers to be a spokesman of his constituents, not to be a PR person for the settlers in eretz yisrael.
He possesses extraordinary character and ethics and has never had to defend himself in federal court regarding questionable “kickbacks”.
David has a PROVEN record of delivering for the PEOPLE OF THE COMMUNITY, and he will be a welome CHANGE AS SPOKESMAN AND REPRESENTATIVE of the people in Midwood, Bensonhurst and Boro Park.
David will continue to work collaboratively with the other politicians to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.”
Greenfield has received widespread support from prominent members of EVERY ethnic community in the diverse 44th Council District, including the Catholic, Ashkenaz, Sephardic, and Hasidic communities.
THE DAYS OF DOV HIKIND AS DICTATOR ARE NUMBERED.
BARUCH HASHEM!!
THEN DOV CAN RETIRE TO YESHA AND HAVE THEM RETAIN HIM AS THEIR PR PERSON.
Boro Park Askan, we get it you feel very strongly about Greenfield!
Both of you in Boro Park are overlooking a very important problem in Brooklyn politics. There is a horrible political machine called the Democratic party that has a stranglehold on the Jewish vote. Until askanim are willing to tell people to register and not to tell them to register Democrat, nothing will change. The Democrats are for big government and all of the patronage that comes with it.
The first apartment me and my husband lived in after we were married was a third story of a three story walk-up. The nice askan from the Agudah came all the way the three stories to register the both of us. So I asked him,”Why shouldn’t I register Republican?” His answer,”Your vote would be wasted and anyway, here in Brooklyn, everyone is a Democrat.” Until this disgusting advice changes and people are encouraged to register based on their conscience and their true beliefs, liberty, right to life, family values, limited government, then and only then will the patronage politics change.
But, just to dump on Hikind who has done amazing things when it comes to terrorism and public safety is untrue and diverting everyone’s attention to the real problem; the Democrats iron grip control on the Jewish vote. And when the hypocritical, self-serving, cowardly askanim are willing to admit to it, Moshiach will be here and this issue will be irrelevant.
VOTE NACHMAN CALLER – COMMUNITY FIRSTNachman Caller has been living in the 44th district for decades unlike some of the other candidates who are moving into District 44 just so that they can qualify to run for office. He is an expert in condominium law and is responsible for being the catalyst to regulatory amendments to the Martin Act (and was therefore given honorary membership by Attorney General Dennis Vacco to the Martin Act Task Force). Nachman Caller is also an expert in all aspects of tax law and has testified before the City Council with regards to tax abatement and legislation affecting new housing. His local expertise, as well as his decades of experience in both the real estate arena, the tax arena, and as a local businessman makes him a truly unique and qualified advocate for the needs of the community.
Nachman Caller a/k/a Carl Caller is a 2010 City Council Candidate for the 44th District of the City of New York, representing the Borough Park, Bensonhurst and Midwood sections of Brooklyn, NY (Election Date: March 23, 2010.)Nachman Caller is also a Talmid Chochom(Talmudic scholar) and Magid Shiur (lecturer) who has authored and published several seforim (Talmudic treatises). He also founded and taught at several kollelim (institutes for the advance study of the Talmud) located in Boro Park, Brooklyn, Lakewood, NJ and Beit Shemesh Israel. Nachman Caller’s tenure as an experienced attorney and community leader, has propelled many members of the community to urge him to run for City Council. His brilliant understanding of the intricacies of law and policy makes him an ideal City Council Representative. Nachman Caller’s independent and bipartisan approach to resolving complex issues allows him to truly put the needs, ideals and values of community first. He answers only to what is right and devotes his mind and energy to accomplish the goals of the community.
Joe Lazar is a nice guy but, that’s not the issue here. The issue is about Hikind’s hatred for Greenfield.
Hikind acts like a mafia boss & uses his own bias to endorse candidates. David Greenfield has been a very active advocate for the heimishe oilom, & has proven himself to be strong leader. The only reason Hikind is endorsing Lazar, is because he knows Greenfield (who used to be Hikind chief of staff) will not be his puppet. He didn’t endorse felder for the same reason.
The early polls indicate that the oilom is starting to see through Hikind’s motives, & Greenfield will win big time.
The only thing Dov has on his record is, strong-arming instituions, organizations and Mosdos to jump after him in order to recieve grants and that comes only after recognizing him or honoring him publicly.
Dov has no problem washing out dirty laundry on public radio and announcing that we are racists… We need someone that knows the Mishna “Emor Me’at V’Asey Harbey”. Someone that actually gets things done, passes effective legislation.
GO GREENFIELD
I like greenfield’s analysys. But Im going to vote for Dovs choice. I trust him more then I trust myself when it comes to local Yocal politics
So far I’m leaning towards Caller. Although it seems he won’t have much of a chance anyway, I just like the idea that there is no controversy with him.
