MAKING THE CALL — President Obama placed phone calls to both candidates in the Massachusetts Senate election Tuesday night, according to a statement from White House press secretary Robert Gibbs:
“This evening the President spoke to both candidates in the hard-fought Massachusetts Senate race. The President congratulated Senator Brown on his victory and a well-run campaign. The President told Senator Brown that he looks forward to working with him on the urgent economic challenges facing Massachusetts families and struggling families across our nation.
“The President thanked Attorney General Coakley for her hard work and urged her to continue her advocacy on behalf of working people.”
MORE: Coakley, in her concession speech, detailed Obama’s message to her: “He actually just called me before I came onstage to say that we can’t win them all, and he knows that better than any, as he told me. But he appreciates what I did and what you did, and he said to extend his heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked on the campaign.”
BROWN’S TURN: In his victory speech, Brown alluded to his campaign ads featuring his pickup truck, which the president mocked in a campaign stop Sunday: “When I spoke to the president, the first thing I said: ‘Would you like me to drive the truck down to Washington so you can see it?’ ”

What to look for is a sign that the Democrats realize they lost because people are annoyed with their agenda, rather than believing that the loss was due to lazy campaigning (and a candidate with a questionable record prosecuting innocent people).
To #1 Halevai you’re right but as the saying goes-“it aint over till its over”-You never know what kind of shady deals are taking place in secret meetings between Obama’s people & certain wishy washy Republicans. So hold on tight & pray for the best.
akuperma, the Democrats are your friends, remember?
#4- in a civil society, one is friends with those with whom one disagrees – go back and look at how people like Ronald Reagan made a point of being friends with leading Democrats (they chatted, got drunk, and agreed on good legislation).
P.S. One should worry that the election in Massachussetts will save Obama since without his ludicrous health care and climate change policies, the economy might start improving, and with it, the chances of him getting reelected
