American Airlines will raise its check-bag fees next month to match those of its rival legacy carriers.
Starting Feb. 1, the AMR Corp. unit will raise the fee for passengers first check bag to $25 from $20, and to $35 from $30 for the second bag.
American said about 25% of its domestic customers pay checked bag charges, with other customers either exempt or choosing to take only a carry-on.
Earlier this month, Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines raised their check-bag fees that were later matched by United Airlines. In August, US Airways was the first to up its fees.

Now you know why so many flights will be delayed. Because everyone will try to take carry-ons on he plane, and then some won’t fit and have to be removed and taken off the plane and have to be checked in anyway. If you asked the flight attendants wouldn’t it save more time and avoid delays if the bags were checked for free, they roll their eyes because, they know it is true.
Another rip-off of the public. If you are going on a trip for more that a couple of days, you have no choice bu to check a bag or two.
Perhaps shipping clothes through UPS or FedEx might be cheaper easpecially if these ridiculous fees keep going up.
