Rabbi Liberow Was Told About Son

Flatbush Chabad Shliach Rabbi Zalman Liberow is recovering and is showing “positive progress” following a car crash 2 weeks ago, COLlive.com is reporting.

The 45 year-old remains in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, near the site of the crash, and is surrounded by his immediate family.

“He is breathing on his own and is under sedation due to the great amount of pain he is in,” a family member told COLlive Monday.

Liberow, Director of Chabad of Flatbush since 1992, is communicating though hand motions and inquired about the well-being of his wife and now 10 children, following the accident that claimed the life of his son.

He was told Sunday about the passing of his 9 year-old son, Avrohom Dovid Liberow OBM, after repeatedly insisting to be told about his condition.

“He has not reacted yet,” a family member said.

The family says they were touched by the outpouring of support and sympathy by the Flatbush, Crown Heights and general Lubavitch community (including the fellow Shluchim).

Tehillim and prayers were said around the world for his recovery (Schneur Zalman ben Dabrusha).

As the family is also dealing with financial hardship, now that the rabbi, the sole provider is hospitalized, a fund has been set up with Colel Chabad.

“The doctors are very impressed by his progress and were surprised to watch him breathe on his own even after his lungs were affected,” the family reported.

Liberow, who is able to write a thought or two on paper, is expected to be operated on his hand and ribs.

Until then, the public is asked to keep saying Tehillim and donate to the Liberow Fund https://www.colelchabad.org/Donate_Now.bp?aCampaign=Accident
