Delta Airlines reported a minor disturbance aboard a flight today from Amsterdam to Detroit Metropolitan Airport that landed around 1:30 p.m.
Four passengers on Northwest Flight 243 “did not comply with crew member instructions and out of an abundance of caution the crew requested authorities meet the flight upon arrival,” the airline said in a statement this afternoon.
The Airbus 330 had 245 passengers and 12 crew members aboard. All passengers have deplaned except the four who didn’t follow crew members’ instructions. Those four were being questioned by authorities, said Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott.
She said Delta wasn’t releasing additional information immediately, but downplayed what happened in terms of any major security threat.
After Flight 243 landed this afternoon, it was held in an area a safe distance from the McNamara Terminal while federal authorities investigated “behavior thought to be suspicious,” Metro Airport spokesman Michael Conway said. “After about 15 minutes, the aircraft was cleared to taxi to the gate, just like any other international flight.”
Conway said he wasn’t immediately aware of anyone being arrested or facing charges. Representatives from the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection couldn’t immediately be reached.

Of course if they profiled and I don’t care if it is race, religion, ethnicity, body language, or scent, than these suspicious passengers would have been identified BEFORE they boarded the plane.
#1 That is only if the security people actually know what they are doing. I have less and less confidence in the security agencies. Just goes to show where our real trust must be – in THE ONE ABOVE!!
By the way,as far as profiling goes, I think everyone should be checked. There are American looking people who have converted to Islam as well, so based on profiling as we think of it, these people wouldn’t be checked thoroughly. I personally wouldn’t mind having to spend more time at the airport, as long as I know everyone is being screened and therefore hopefully ensuring a safe flight. Is it an inconvenience? Yes, of course, but a well worth one.
What if they were just taking the crews word lightly, or moreover, what if the crew were taking their request lightly?

A simple solution – have each passenger desecrate a picture of Mohammed. Those that do get on the plane period. Is this profiling?
Is this the same Amsterdam-Detroit flight which had the bombing attempt recently…and then another incident similar to this article…and now this?
As a frequent traveler, I am ALL for airport and homeland security, but perhaps this crew is suffering from PTSD? Why are no other airlines or flight routes making the news about such things?

Bubby good point about Detroit/Amsterdam demographics, but the math still doesn’t work. The odds are astronomical. I think the NW crew may have grown a bit paranoid. Albeit,I cannot say I blame them, those crew members went through a legit traumatic experience! And to answer my own question, this incident was on flight 243, whereas the first two incidents were flight 253.
