Toronto: Anti-Semitic Episode Lands Man In Jail

prison2.jpgA Thornhill, Ont., man who spewed “anti-Semitic profanities” and threatened a Jewish man and his young son with a knife in front of their home will spend six months in jail.

Matthew Veersasammy, 28, will also serve three years probation following his release with conditions that include doing cultural-sensitivity training.

Last month, Veersasammy pleaded guilty to criminal harassment, assault with a weapon and possession of a concealed weapon. He was sentenced on Dec. 11.

York Region Police Det.-Sgt. John Sheldon said Veersasammy was walking his dog in the Bathurst Street and Clark Avenue area in Thornhill on Sept. 11 when, unprovoked, he began yelling “anti-Semitic profanities” at the 43-year-old father and his 11-year-old son, who were standing at the end of their driveway.

Sheldon said that when the victim warned him that he would call the police if he didn’t leave, Veersasammy pulled out a knife and threatened to kill him.

“The police had a description and with help from the neighbours, we could locate where the accused lived,” Sheldon said.

He added that hate crimes are always taken very seriously by York Region police.

“This type of behaviour is not tolerated and will be treated severely before the courts. This is a fairly significant sentence and rightfully so,” Sheldon said.

  1. I know its not just my imagination. I feel anti-semitism is rising. I have also recently experienced some socially awkwardness/comments/confrontations from goyim aimed at my being jewish. Obviously not as concerning at the above mentioned article. But it did make me uncomfortable.
Not to mention with what the Quebec Gov’t is trying to do to the Chinuch of Jewish Schools.
