New ‘Ghost’ Cop Car Aims to Spook Bad Drivers

pd.gifWestchester county police have unveiled a new “secret” weapon in the fight against chatty drivers this holiday season.

An new all-white  “ghost car” is the same as Ford Crown Victorias currently on the road but this cruiser has gray and white decals to help officers blend in with other civilian traffic and creep up on drivers talking on cell phones, texting or driving without a seatbelt.

The county is starting with just one of the cars, but if it proves successful motorists could see more of the phantom cop cars  on Westchester highways.

  1. This may be unusual or extreme, but if it can prevent injurries or fatalities then it is a good thing. Driving a vehicle is a privelege not a right. This means hands on the steering wheel not the cell phone for speaking or texting.

  2. THE MAIN REASON IS TO GIVE OUT TICKETS AND CREATE REVNUE ,IF THEY WANTED TO SEND A SAFTY MESSAGE THEY WOULD NOT HIDE IN UNMARKED CARS.PEOPLE OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS IF THEY SEE POLICE!!

  3. YAKZ: That may be true, but one doesn’t ALWAYS see the police, but if one got a ticket from a cop in one of these police cars, they may actually obey the laws ALL the time.

  4. Yakz. People should obey traffic laws wether they see police or not. Completely juvenille response. As with kids, if words alone do not convince them to follow the laws, then a punishment usually does the trick. That is what a summons is all about. You are making a choice to not follow the law, so don’t be upset with the consequence if you get caught. They are not out to “get you,” they are trying keeping the roads safe.

  5. YAKZ (#2) Shkoyach – Thanks for the tip – it’s a real chiddush . . . opened up my eyes.

I work for a law enforcement agency, and all of us here would love to know your source of information . . . so that we can pass it along to the officers in the field.
