Macy’s Flagship Store Evacuated After 2-Alarm Fire


fdny1.jpgA two-alarm fire at Macy’s in Midtown has led to an evacuation of the store, according to the fire department.

Fire officials say the fire which started at approximately 4:00PM has been knocked down, but there remains a heavy smoke condition on site. No injuries were reported.

Hundreds of customers were evacuated from the flagship Macy’s in Herald Square after an escalator fire broke out between the third and fourth floors.

The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. on one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season.

As of 5:30PM the fire was placed under control, and Macy’s employees were being allowed back into the building to clean up water damage & prepare the store for reopening to customers.
