A sizable crowd was on hand on erev shabbos to bid a final farewell to HaGaon HaRav Zalman Druk zt”L, the rav of the Jerusalem Great Synagogue and Jerusalem’s Rechavia neighborhood. The rav was niftar at age 73 following a prolonged difficult illness.
The rav published 11 seforim, including on halachos pertaining to a shul and krias HaTorah, since davening and one’s conduct in a shul was of particular importance to the rav. He maintained his father’s minhag, walking around the community before shabbos, reminding shopkeepers it was time to go home and light candles.
Included in the hespedim were remarks from HaGaon HaRav Yosef Efrati Shlita, who added words on behalf of Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, as well as attorney Zalman Jaffe, the gabbai of the Great Synagogue, who spoke on behalf of the mispalalim.
