Chanukah Party Puts War Of Words Between Bloomberg, DA Morgenthau Put On Hold

bloomberg.jpgThe NY Daily News reports: Days after a nasty feud erupted into barnyard epithets, Mayor Bloomberg and Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau were all smiles Tuesday night at a Chanukah party.

“It’s my honor and privilege to introduce the mayor tonight,” Morgenthau told hundreds of revelers at the mayor’s annual Chanukah party.

The holiday bash was held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, where Morgenthau is chairman of the board. So, it fell to the legendary 90-year-old prosecutor to publicly welcome Bloomberg.

It might have been a tricky task in the wake of last week’s bitter fight when Bloomberg bashed Morgenthau for using “two sets of books” to hide $83 million in fines, settlements and forfeitures from the city.

Tensions simmered between the two since Morgenthau considered charging city officials for failing to inspect the Deutsche Bank building before the 2007 blaze that killed two firefighters.

The bad feelings rippled into the race to replace the retiring Morgenthau this year when Bloomberg seemed to back Leslie Crocker Snyder over Cy Vance, Morgenthau’s choice.

There was no hint of any of that last night in the ballroom of the Battery Park museum, overlooking New York Harbor.

The district attorney greeted Bloomberg with a warm handshake and whispered something into the mayor’s ear. The two chatted amiably as they waited for a children’s choir to finish performing before going on stage.

Neither would not comment about what they talked about.
