NYC Granny Attacker To Rot In Prison

prison1.jpgThe heartless thug who brutally robbed three Queens women – one of them 101 years old – will die in prison after a furious judge yesterday sentenced him to 75 years.

“That comes out to about a year for every dollar you took from those people,” Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak told Jack Rhodes, 47, who netted just $78 and two rings from the unspeakable crimes.

“Your actions…..were reprehensible,” Lasak said. “It shocks the senses. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Rhodes fractured four bones in centenarian Rose Morat’s face when he robbed her in the lobby of her Jamaica Estates apartment building in March 2007, punching her and dropping her to the floor from her walker.

“You’re not a man because a man doesn’t act like that,” Lasak told Rhodes. “A man doesn’t throw a left hook and a right hook into the face of a 101-year-old woman.”

Morat, who was not in court, sent a letter describing Rhodes’ “cruel and brutal” attack.

After giving her a “severe blow” that broke her cheekbone, “he continued beating me many more times and left me in a pool of blood,” Morat said.

She signed the letter: “I am respectfully, Rose M. Morat, 103 years old.”

The same day he robbed Morat, Rhodes pushed 87-year-old Solange Elizee into her apartment, beat her, kicked her, stole her money and took two rings from her fingers.

Months earlier in the same neighborhood, he beat Angela Kahn, 51, and kicked her while she was on the ground in a $10 robbery.

“The defendant’s disturbingly cowardly attacks on elderly and defenseless women – two of whom needed the aid of a walker to get around – has rightfully cost him his future,” said Queens DA Richard Brown.

Lasak reminded Rhodes that he would spend his declining years in a prison near the Canadian border with fewer and fewer visitors as the years go by.

“You’re going to get old and lonely up there. You’re going to become an old man,” Lasak said. “I wonder if the young inmates will show you the same respect that you showed Rose Morat, Solange Elizee and Angela Khan.”

Rhodes still insisted he was being railroaded.

“To the victims, my heart goes out,” he said. “I’m sorry these crimes happened to you. I’m not the man who committed them.”

Rhodes, who started his criminal career in 1990 stealing from a poor box in a Brooklyn church, was convicted in October of 11 crimes: four counts of robbery, three counts of burglary and four counts of assault, but faced no more than 25 years for each separate attack.

Two counts of robbery and one count of burglary were upgraded to hate crimes because of the age of his victims.

  1. Beating a helpless old lady and petty theft does not deserve life in prison. The judge is an achzar – for the actual sentence and for the accompanying glee.

Don’t start with the “kol hamerachem al ha’achzorim” etc. – the Torah itself does not mandate such harsh sentences.

  2. This guy must have real issues if he felt the need to left hook a 101 year old women! Why couldnt he just pluck her pocketbook off her walker?? Vermin like him SHOULD be locked up forever! Good call on the judge’s part! #3 your nuts! save your rachmanus for more worthy people!
