State lawmakers will gather in Albany again today for their special session to tackle the state’s $3.2 billion budget gap.
Legislative leaders met with Governor David Paterson yesterday but failed to reach an agreement.
They did offer the governor a $2.8 billion plan that includes Paterson’s $1.6 billion in emergency budget action.
In a statement the governor said the plan doesn’t do enough to restore New York to long-term fiscal stability.
Lawmakers say there’s an impasse between the Governor, who wants cuts to education funding, and the state senate, which will not cut school aid.
On Sunday, Paterson announced he was taking emergency measures to pay the state’s December bills, including shifting money from state agencies to the general fund.
