Levaya Of Famed Mohel, Rav Moshe Bunim Pirutinsky ZATZAL

candle95.gifYWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of the famed Mohel, Rav Moshe Bunim Pirutinsky ZATZAL.

Rav Pirutinsky was was one of the last “Alter Mirrer”, the title given to those who learned in the Mirrer Yeshiva in Poland, and who miraculously survived the hands of the Nazis YMS by fleeing with the entire Yeshiva to Shanghai, China.

He was the Mechaber of the widely-used “Sefer HaBris”, and preformed thousands of Brissim in his lifetime. For decades, he was considered the “exclusive” Mohel at Yeshiva Chaim Berlin, and could be found preforming every Bris taking place in the Yeshiva.

He resided in Brooklyn where he spent his days & nights sitting by a Gemorah, and in the past years relocated to Lakewood where he retired from Brissim and spent his days toiling in learning.

His health slowly deteriorated in the last 3-4 years, and he was Niftar is his sleep last night at the age of 90.

The Levaya is scheduled for Motzei Shabbos at 6:45PM in Kol Shimshon in Lakewood – 323 Squankum Road, and at 9:30PM in the JFK Cargo Area B Building #23 enroute to Eretz Yisroel for the Kevurah.

  1. BD”E Not only was he the mohel in yeshiva chaim berlin he also learned in the bais medrash every day for many years before he retired & moved to Lakewood.

I remember when the yeshiva was learning Rav Elozor D’mila many of the bochurim approached him to shmooz in learning and he commented to some of us that we could shmooz with him in learning in other sugyos as well!!

May he be a mailitz yosher for the thousands of yidden for whom he served as their mohel myself and my son included.

growing up in Brooklyn i remember him well- his hasmada & tzu-gang was something else! b’h he has many children going in his ways
what a loss for klal yisroel

  3. Baruch dayan emmes, he was a “tayara yid”, but although he was a yedid of the Chaim Berlin roshei yeshiva and performed many brissim there, he had no exclusivity – many other mohelim were welcomed to perform brissim in Chaim Berlin, even during the tekufa when Reb Moshe Bunim was active.

  4. I learned with him in Chaim Berlin. i was much younger than him, a mere 5 years out of Kollel and a Rebbe, and he was way above me. He had been my own Mohel, one of his first and he always mentioned to me the gratitude he had to my father that hired him to give him business when he was still inexperienced.

  5. BARUCH DAYAN EMESS.
GEVALD !! MAMASH THE END OF A TEKUFA.
UUD MUTZAL MAI-AISH, M’SRIDEI DOR HA-OVAR, FUN DE ‘ALTER MIR’
A TALMOD CHACHAM MUFLA, AS WE SEE IN HIS MASTERPIECE SEFER ‘SEFER HABRIS’, AND AS WITNESED BY ALL THE HASKAMOS PRINTED THERE.
MOHEL TO OVER 15 THOUSAND YIDISHE KINDERLACH.
    YEHI ZICHRO BARUCH!

  6. His son told me an interesting story. He was always the mohel by his grandsons’ bris. He wanted to be the sandek once too. So, one time (that I heard about) he did the milah sitting as he was the sandek.

  7. A great and kind tzaddik. When we lived in Flatbush, we had the bris of one our sons done by a different mohel, a family friend. However, he told us afterwards that there may have been some excessive bleeding, and we were very nervous. It was a very short Erev Shabbos and we wanted to get a second opinion that everything was OK. We called Rabbi Pirutinsky that afternoon, and he came over right away. He checked the baby and told us that he just needed some extra bandaging, and that, in general, bandaging the baby properly is something that is very important and a major part of what mohalim learn.

He told us he would like to leave his tools and briefcase with us over Shabbos just in case there was any problem, and we should come get him right away if there was any more bleeding, and he would be glad to provide any necessary care. B”H everything was fine, and I brought him back his tools after Shabbos. Just knowing that this Mumcheh had checked everything out made us much calmer. He didn’t want to accept any payment.

A real mensch and first rate talmid chacham. Yehi Zichro Boruch and we wish a nechama to his entire family.

  8. He was also the father in law of Rabbi Avrohom Jacobowitz (founder of JAAM and Machon LaTorah)known as Rabbi “J” who is a leading kiruv expert in the world today. He has, together with his wife Baila, probably made hundreds if not thousands of Baalei Teshuva.

  9. He was my mohel as well…
His “Sefer Habris” is a very complex thorough book going deeply through all the necessary topics regarding to Milah. He bring all the responsa on all subjects… He of course doesn’t need my haskomo, but I’m just grateful to him as a “user”.
I didn’t know him personally (besides for him being my mohel, & seeing him a couple of times) although his eldest son, R’ Yehuda is my uncle (who is also a famous mohel in Lakewood today)…
I have a personal hakoras hatov to him for my bris & for his intensive sefer.
    Mohel in Basel
