Williamsburg Shomrim (WSPU) caught a “big fish” on Tuesday afternoon, when their members apprehended a group of people suspected of passing counterfeit US currency to local establishments.
Sources tell YWN that Shomrim received a phone call that a group of 4 people were walking the streets of Williamsburg, and making small purchases using $100 bills in multiple stores.
One store owner checked the bill, realized they were counterfeit, and called Shomrim for assistance.
Shomrim members followed the suspects as they made purchases in 8 stores, and finally apprehended them after a small foot-pursuit. The NYPD was quick to respond, and placed them into custody.
Shortly after they arrived at the 90th Pct, a Shomrim member found more than $7,000 in fake bills on the street – which was thrown there during the foot-pursuit.
The US Secret Service has been called to assist the NYPD in this investigation.
Additionally, these arrests today bring the total arrests by Williamsburg Shomrim in this week to 12; four arrested on Monday for breaking into cars, some graffiti arrests, and others for breaking windows on a bus filled with Yeshiva children.
Just another reason to thank WSPU for keeping the streets of Williamsburg safe!

shkoach Williamsburg Shomrim
Great job Wmsbg Shomrim!
Maybe they should be recruited for the anti-terror task force. Maybe 1 day we’ll have some chassidish-garbed Jews as part of the U.S. President’s secret service detail!
Hmmmm!!!
Maybe they can teach Crown Heights how to do it right????
#2, very few shomrim wear the chasidisheh garb in the weekdays besides for at davining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a question: while I laud the efforts and accomplishments of all volunteer organizations, why is it that Shomrim (all areas) are always in the public spotlight every time they aprehend someone, yet Hatzalah, who saves countless lives on a daily basis, never gets ANY recognition for what they do…..
Daboss,
kol ha’osek betzorchei tzibur be’emuna Hashem yeshalem secharam – those who are faithfully involved in the needs of the klal will be repaid by Hashem.
If you are part of Hatzolah, keep up the good work and don’t fear Hashem’s reward will far surpass any temporary honor others may give you.
But… if you are not from Hatzolah, then you should make it your business to applaud their work and show your appreciation! You be the one. Don’t ask about others. Because YES they do deserve recognition (as does Shomrim) from all of us who benefit from their chesed.
Keep up the great work!
#5 ‘NEVER’ get recognition?? ..and #6 you farenfer why not..hatzaloh gets plenty recognition. do you want that it should be reported everytime we hear the ‘HATZOLAH’ siren? how many times hatzlah goes on false alarms. when c’v something serious happens its reprted on this and all frum news..so what do you mean by ‘not getting ‘recognition?
