(Click on image to ENLARGE it) A notice has been posted this morning on the front door of the home of Rav Shmuel Meir Katz Shlita, one of the leading Poskim in Lakewood. The letter by Rabbi Katz was handwritten and signed.
It reads as follows:
“There is a letter that says that Rabbonim were consulted who were Maskim that it is Mutar to vote for Corzine. If this is Mashma to you, that either me or Rav Forscheimer or Rav Felder or Rav Lieberman or Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen were consulted – that is not so.”

It is a travesty to vote for Corzine . We are all in danger of Obama here and in Eretz Yisroel. A vote for Corzine is a vote for Obama . Are the rabbonim in Lakeood restricted to voice an opinion ? The are just making sure that the tragedy of voting for Corzine not be blamed on them . How about getting up and taking a stand.
Is the only issue by the way his stance on immorality? Is that more pressing than the dangerous policies we all face with Obama ?

Even if chas veshalom Corzine wins, the numbers will I”H show an overwhelming vote for Christi.

The Vaad and Rabbi Shenkolevsky have been the respected representatives of the community for many years. Political decisions require a great deal of shikul hadaas and the experience of people that have born the yolk of communal shtadlonus. The Rabbanim have not taken away the Chezkas Kashrus or their confidence in their lay leadership.Undermining their political advice will lead to political chaos …all without the Rabbinic guidance to do so. Be very very careful,especially when the help of these elected officials may lead to questions of Sakanos Nefushos later on down the road.

I am a bit confused. This letter only states that he was not consulted about a letter purporting to be from him. How is this an endorsement of anything?
Let me tell you the following true story: I just completed a hearing in front of a superior court judge on the matter of an emergency ballot. It seems that the husband of the woman who appeared with her five children is a physician whose shift was changed at the last minute and has to be at work in New York City today and cannot make it to the polls. The wife wants to get a mail in ballot, go to the hospital, have her husband vote and then bring the ballot back to New Jersey. I do not know this woman but based upon various factors it appeared that her husband was intending to vote for Chris Christie. Imagine my disbelief when the GOP lawyers actually opposed her application! In fact, under the law this was a perfectly acceptable application. It was the Public Advocate and the Democratic lawyers who were arguing for this person’s right to vote. After the judge ruled in favor of the voter, I asked one of the GOP lawyers why he opposed the application. His response was that their policy is to oppose any application that is not clearly a vote for a republican.
Second true story: A woman I spoke to today was adamant about getting a chance to vote. I asked her why, if she felt it was so important had she not filled out the forms etc. earlier. Not to give her a hard time, but just so I don’t sound silly in front of the judge. She told me that her mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and her doctor suggested that she get tested for the BRCA1 gene. Unfortunately she not only tested positive but discovered a mass. When she learned that “the other side” would repeal the mandates that got her coverage for these procedures, and probably saved her life, she decided that she had to vote today.
my point is this: there are very few things in life that are black and white. almost everything is a shade of gray. Do we opposed SS marriage? of course we do. Is it going to happen? I don’t know. I do know that more of our mothers and sisters and daughters may not get the coverage they need and the tests they need to save their lives without insurance mandates.
And, finally, – PLEASE STOP THE CHILUL HASHEM!!! if you disagree, do it respectfully.
Doesn’t the Mishna in Avos advise people not to live in a city whose political leaders are talmidei chachamim????
