Long-term mobile phone users could face a higher risk of developing cancer in later life, according to a decade-long study.
The report, to be published later this year, has reportedly found that heavy mobile use is linked to brain tumours.
The survey of 12,800 people in 13 countries has been overseen by the World Health Organization.
Preliminary results of the inquiry, which is looking at whether mobile phone exposure is linked to three types of brain tumour and a tumour of the salivary gland, have been sent to a scientific journal.
The findings are expected to put pressure on the British Government – which has insisted that mobile phones are safe – to issue stronger warnings to users.

So the bottom line is that this is simply the press release of a study that has not been (1) accepted, (2) reviewed, (3) revised, and (4) actually published in a scientific journal.
In a highly emotional area like cancer research, especially research that links common products or activities (like cellphone use) to cancer, all that these types of press releases do is muddy the waters.
It is poor science and the chances of being accepted by a reputable journal are very low.
This reminds me of cigarette studies in the 1960s, it takes decades before an addicted society and a big industry can be forced to face the truth.
How many people will have to die r”l before we all recognize the danger of cell phones and brain tumors, first reported about 10 years ago?
This is especially true for children all the way till adulthood. They have due to the natural process of growing, a much more delicate system that makes them more susceptible to the dangers of radiation.
All of the hormonal changes going on during the growing years puts them at a much greater health risk from radiation exposure.
Blue tooth devices do not help either as the radiation from those devices are the same level.
Wearing the cell phone in the pants pocket or on the belt has been proven in numerous studies to decrease sperm count in males by 28%. This is due to the constant radiation emitted by the phone even when not on a call.
I have my children use the payphones in their schools and they don’t have the added concern of all the ruchnius issues as well (texting to inappropriate friends, downloading inappropriate pictures and videos, being in 24 hour a day potential contact from friends that I would rather they didn’t have calling them at all hours of the night, etc. etc.)
Cell phones (some more than others) make my ear (and deeper) hot. It probably does that to everyone to some extent. When a part of the body gets irritated (for example, the lungs), it provides an opportunity for tumors to develop R”L.
Does using a Bluetooth help reduce the risk?
So, now it’s pretty much bad for our Ruchniyos and Gashmiyos…..
WOW, a friend of mine does not use cellphones HE claims every time he uses a cell phone or even gets near a cell phone he gets a headache.
Although texting has other (ruchniyus) issues associated with it, maybe physiologically it is safer than talking?!?
Does any 1 have info about living next to a cellphone tower/antenna?
Please remember 2 things:
1) the “radiation” of a cellphone is not the same as nuclear radiation (alpha, beta, etc.). It is only a high frequency radio signal.
2) there have been no reliable studies that have shown either (a) a connection to, or (b) a mechanism for causing cancer.
Unlike cigarettes, where the companies were doing the studies (bit of a conflict of interest)and hiding the results, a number of independent studies have been conducted and, so far, there has been no connection between cellphone use and cancer. Lastly, there are studies on the effects of radio-frequency (RF) radiation on cells and nothing so far suggests that RF causes changes to the cell structure that would lead to cancer.
There is radiation from just about all our electronic communication products such as cordless home phones, lap-top computers, etc…
The question asked is how much of it is harmful and will single prolonged usage intensify the radiation? hopefully, these questions will be answered in the published report.
Well , I don’t think anyone with any real info on this subject will doubt , that there are very serious questions here , and there certainly are studies available for and against . A good site for info is

Even a remote chance of cell phones causing brain cancer is worth taking precautions. Use the speaker phone and/or ear phone, and keep the device away from your head.
Thank you, shlomo2. Yes, it’s obvious that they are trying to frighten unknowing people. I’ve seen signs about this, asking, would you want to be exposed to x-ray all day. The only connection between the two is that they are both electromagnetic radiation. What a scary word. Well, so is visible light. In fact, light lies between x-ray and radio frequency.
Another point: We live in the database age. Havana and Daas have long ago been tossed overboard, and ridiculed. All we hear all day is, “studies show. studies show”. Therefore, claims emerge like, diet soda makes you fat, since there’s been a connection between fat people and diet soda. Paul Harvey once announced that some college made a study and found that people going through marriage problems tend to have a higher level of stress and anxiety. Hmm.
My point being, was it a significant raise of cancers, was it repeated, is it also caused by any close sound e.g. headphones…
And, even after all that, the facts should be published without the svarra. Was it proven that the radio signals raises the chances, did they try other radio signal emitting devices? How about testing the differences between those who listen to the radio alot and those who don’t listen?
Report: WHO to Announce Cell Phone, Brain Tumor Link
Sunday, October 25, 2009
A groundbreaking, $30 million study into cell phones has found a link between long term use and brain tumors.
The World Health Organization is about to reveal that its decade-long investigation has found the devices can lead to cancer — and the internationally-respected body will soon issue a public health message with its findings, London’s Daily Telegraph reported today.
The conclusion goes against years of assurances by cell phone companies and scientists that cell phone use is safe.
But last month, Sen. Arlen Specter (D – Pa) organized Senate hearings to examine health implications of talking on-the-go.
The WHO’s Interphone investigation’s results showed, “a significantly increased risk” of some brain tumors “related to use of mobile phones for a period of ten years or more,” the Telegraph reported today.
The study’s head, Dr. Elisabeth Cardis, said, “In the absence of definitive results and in the light of a number of studies which, though limited, suggest a possible effect of radiofrequency radiation, precautions are important.”
The project carried out studies in 13 countries, talking to tumor sufferers as well as healthy cell phone users, It interviewed 12,800 people.
The results will be officially published before the end of the year, according to the Telegraph.
