Obama Gives Shout Out To ‘My Friend’ Thompson

thomp2.jpgPresident Obama wrapped up his visit to the city Tuesday with some words of praise for Democratic mayoral candidate Bill Thompson while speaking at a fundraiser in Midtown.

The only way Thompson got any recognition from Obama was by attending a health care rally in Manhattan, where tickets started at $100. Backstage, they met for a minute, a Thompson aide said.

Obama told Thompson to “keep working hard.” Thompson responded “I am, every day.”

The president made public remarks at the Hammerstein Ballroom while addressing supporters of Democrat Bill Owens, who is running in a special Congressional election upstate.

“And a great city comptroller, our candidate for mayor, my friend Billy Thompson is in the house,” Obama said.

Thompson, who had previously received a lukewarm endorsement via White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, said Tuesday’s nod was all the backing he needed.

“I am excited and proud to receive the endorsement of the President,” Thompson said. “To have the President of United States get involved in a New York City Mayoral race and endorse me, illustrates that he believes I will win and that I can lead this city.”

Earlier in the day, the President visited the Chelsea headquarters of the Joint Terrorism Task Force where he thanked the New York City Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation for their efforts in fighting terrorism.

  1. “And a great city comptroller, our candidate for mayor, my friend Billy Thompson is in the house,”

What house is he talking about? I guess he’s speaking ebonics so when says that Ahmadinejad is bad, is actually saying that he’s good. I’m confused.

  2. Many years ago when I was a much bigger baseball fan, I learned the algebraic equation of “VOC=KOD” which means,

Vote Of Confidence = Kiss Of Death!

  3. I too thought of voting for Thompson to punish Bloomberg for going against the will of the people; but now I don’t know. With this and Bloomberg’s endorsement by gedolei Yisroel, I’m in a quandary. I’m thinking of staying home.
