A knife-wielding carjacker who was furtively tailed by Shomrim ended up in a vehicle he had planned to avoid: one driven by police. The thug allegedly ordered a Jewish man to abandon his Honda Odyssey as he was parking on Berry Street near Broadway at around 11:40 p.m. on Monday night, according to a Shomrim spokesperson.
The 24-year-old minivan owner scoffed at the demand but then bailed out when the white, early-20s perpetrator pulled out a four-inch knife and threatened to kill him.
As his minivan was driven off, the victim called Shomrim and police.
About a half-hour later, Shomrim volunteers scouring the neighborhood for the stolen minivan spotted it going down South 8th Street in Williamsburg and alerted police. When the suspect parked near Wythe Street and walked away, Shomrim kept up the nonchalant pursuit on foot for a couple of blocks, until police arrived.
The Shomrim spokesperson said the suspect was arrested and charged with robbery and carjacking. The victim identified the suspect to police, who confiscated a knife during the arrest.
Police are investigating the incident. A commander from the 90th precinct called Shomrim coordinator Yanky Itzkowitz, praising the organization for its role in facilitating the arrest.
The Shomrim source said the undamaged minivan was returned to its owner.

#4: re-read line three of paragraph four (“Shomrim kept up the nonchalant pursuit on foot for a couple of blocks, until police arrived). You are incorrect. #2, you are so right!
