NYC Considers Ban On Flavored Tobacco

smok.jpgThe New York City Council is considering whether to outlaw sales of all flavored tobacco products — going a few steps beyond a federal ban.

The Food and Drug Administration recently banned manufacturing, importing, marketing and distribution of cigarettes made to taste like candy, fruit and cloves.

The City Council is voting Wednesday on a bill that would include all flavored tobacco products, like small cigars and chewing tobacco. The law would ban sales in New York City.

The FDA is looking at whether to add more of those products to its ban.
Officials and health experts say flavored products are more appealing to young people and can hook children on smoking and tobacco at young ages.

  1. I never smoked and I think its unhealthy to smoke. Having made that loud and clear, I think everyone reading this and other similar gov’t bans on our lifestyle choices should make us all very uncomfortable.

Any time the government passes laws limiting our freedom of choice to do as we please because they in their wisdom know whats best for people is another step in taking away all of our freedom. As yiden we should be especially concerned.

Without unlimited rights to decide how we live our own personal lives without first getting the haskomah of all the powers in government we are all in danger of them strangling us with new laws and taxes for living as frum yiden as well.

Think that can’t happen in this country? Think we will never be treated unfairly due to our yidishkeit as compared to non jews? Ask yourselves why every non jew pays nothing in tuition for their children while we are all effectively mandated by the government to pay incredibly large amounts of our livelihood to send our children to schools without mixed classes. We pay taxes just like the rest of the country and are all denied free education for our children because we insist on being mechanech them in a separate seating jewish school.
