A new study found New York to be the worst big city in the United States for on-time air travel and predicted that the recovering economy could mean longer delays for flights.
According to a report from the Brookings Institute, already lengthy delays at the nation’s airports should worsen as air carriers add more flights, after paring down their schedules during the recession.
The report also finds delays of at least two hours are twice as common now as in 1990.
Researchers blame the delays on an increase in the number of short flights between big cities and a poorly-equipped air traffic control system.
