NBC reports: Governor David Paterson will officially endorse fellow Democrat Bill Thompson for Mayor on Friday, according to the following statement issued by the Governor’s reelection campaign:
“Congratulations to Bill Thompson for his strong victory tonight securing the Democratic nomination for mayor of New York City. I look forward to standing with him on Friday to discuss why he is the best choice to lead New York City.”
Even yesterday after he voted in the Democratic primary, he refused to say who he had voted for.
The statement put out by Paterson’s campaign seems to put an end to the speculation. The question is whether Paterson’s support will help or hurt Thompson — Paterson’s approval ratings are extremely low.

Poor Mr. Thompson, as if he didn’t have enough troubles (it could be worse, what if Spitzer endorsed him)????
Surprise, surprise.
Aside from the disgrace in Spitzer’s personal life, he was on the money pursuing his Wall Street prosecutions for doing what eventually caused Wall Street to collapse. Without excusing Spitzer, we all have our tshuva to do and are entitled to a livliehood even with a blemish. In fact, the reason they blew the whistle on Spitzer’s indiscretion was because he was doing well going after Wall Streeters, and rightfully so.
Hey Joseph, you took the words right out of my mouth!
akuperma, which side of the political aisle are you on? Or, are you always sitting on the fence?
#4 – 1. I’m an ex-Brooklynite so I can enjoy New York politics (the jokes only funny if it isn’t on you)
2. I’m ideologically in the historic mainstream of the Republicans (Bush, Reagan, T.Roosevelt, A. Lincoln, Cardozo, McCain, W. Buckley, etc.)
this only gives me a more reason to vote for Bloomberg, whatever Paterson says, do the opposite
#5: I never took you to be idealogically anything near William F. Buckley Jr.!
Why did Patterson vote in the NYC primary if he is a resident of Albany?
#8: He is a resident of the Bronx. He serves his office in Albany. Same as a Congressional Rep is not considered a resident of Washington, but of their home district.
