FDA Approves Swine Flu Vaccine

vaac4.jpgThe first vaccines for swine flu have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a top health official said.

The FDA today cleared sales of four vaccines to combat the spread of H1N1 influenza, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the House Energy and Commerce Committee in Washington. The vaccines are made by Australian drugmaker CSL Ltd.,Novartis AG, based in Basil, Switzerland, Paris-based Sanofi Aventis SA and London-based AstraZeneca Plc, Peper Long, an FDA spokeswoman, said in an e-mail.

A small number of vaccines are expected to be available at the start of October with mid-October being the “target” release date for most doses, Sebelius told lawmakers on the panel.

  1. Do NOT trust the FDA. It’s impossible to test a vaccine so fast. These swine flu vaccines might be tainted and I would be very cautious about getting vaccinated.

  2. The vaccine was produced using well established procedures. The side effect profile is generally well established for flu vaccines. Granted, there are never any guarantees and I have no doubt that someone, somewhere will have an adverse reaction (that is just a statistical reality).
However, on the balance the vaccine will almost definitely be safer than getting the flu.

  3. That’s right – don’t trust the FDA and the pharm-industry. There is BIG money to be made on this. Not only that, the drug makers are complete and legally protected from any law suites…

  4. I am NOT going to take the shot and I hope my children will be smart enough not to give it to my grandchildren. I have never gotten a flu shot and I have never had the flu. I don’t trust BIG-PHARMA at all.
