A number of New Jersey police commanders visiting Israel dropped in to a Nahariya police station. The three police commanders explained they never put on tefilin in their lives and they never had a bar mitzvah. The decision was made to address the situation immediately and they put on tefilin and a bar mitzvah was organized for them.
The Nahariya station commander, Chief Superintendent Yossi Sharvit decided he can do something to correct the situation and he gave them his tefilin to put on in the station’s shul. The officers described the ceremony as unique experience, adding it helped strengthen the connection between Israel Police, the Nahariya station and Jewish heritage.
