Brooklyn, NY – New York City Council Member Simcha Felder (D-Boro Park, Midwood, Bensonhurst) announced the start of a project to reconstruct a stretch of the Ocean Parkway Malls between Avenues M and O. The project, for which Felder allocated $1.35 million, will include reconstruction of pavement, restoration of an asphalt bike path including new markings for pedestrians and cyclists, improvements to benches and railings, and freshly laid lawn areas.
“Thanks to the hard work of the Department of Parks and Recreation, local residents and passers-by can enjoy this beautiful outdoor space for years to come,” said Felder.
The work, which is due to start in September and finish by late spring 2010, is the third phase of improvements since the Councilman took office. NYC Parks and Recreation is planning to perform the work one segment at a time in order to limit the inconvenience to the public.

What malls??
$1.35million for 2 street blocks? What’s wrong with this picture?
700000$ per block. Wow. I’ll do it for half. What a waste of govt money. The private sector could do it quicker and cheaper.
FYI, the “malls” is the center pedestrian tree lined area.
70,000 per block is not so much. The cement is what cost the most from the entire project of ripping out the old benches, trimming trees, cutting the grass, getting rid of the poop, and making the whole block look nice for the 45 people that ride their bicycles on that stretch.
The union was going to charge 4.5 million per tree but due to some negotiating and back breaking deals plus the fact that we are in a terrible recession Simcha Felder was able to get the price down to 70,000 per block which comes out to 4,000 per tree that is looked at.
Remember to vote on Tuesday and vote for people that will take care of our community and not be for other agendas.
Anyone who does not vote should go to jail for 15 days. It is critical that we all go out and vote tomorrow.
it looks in pretty good shape to me
I think in my 42 years, this is the 4th time Ocean Parkway is being redone. Why cant they get it right already?!!???
Number 4… you’re missing a zero. It’s not Seventy Thousand per block, it’s Seven Hundred Thousand.
i know you people are all from flatbush so i will remind you that there are 2 sides to ocean parkway, and that between the avenues of M & O is 3 blocks not 2. if one does the math it comes out to $450,000 per a block with 2 sides to a block its $225,000 per a block which all together is not that much as #4 had tried to explain!
