Water Rescue In Fallsburg


ywbn13.gif7:00PM EST (Friday): Fallsburg, NY – Emergency services are responding for a possible water rescue in the Neversink River near Old Falls. More than 100 firefighters have gathered at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School to prepare for the possible rescue.

Initial reports are that a raft and some clothes were found in the river near an old fire tower around 6 p.m.

Firefighters from Woodridge called in assistance – with all manpower and life vests — from Fallsburg and Woodbourne departments, and Rock Hill Fire Department’s swift-water rescue team has been called. Rescuers are staging at the school, which is off County Route 53 next to Old Falls.

Old Falls is on County Route 53, also known as Old Falls Road. No swimming is allowed at the site, but people often ignore the prohibition.
