Because of the economic downturn many people are facing the harsh reality of unemployment, under employment, or being out of business. This loss of income puts intact families in a crisis situation. For the first time in their lives they are facing gas and electric shutoff notices, no credit at the grocery, very high overdraft on their credit cards as well as eviction notices for nonpayment of rent or foreclosure for nonpayment of mortgages as well as other financial issues!
The Boro Park Jewish Community Council has noticed a large increase in families applying for the first time for government entitlements such as food stamps, Medicaid, Family Health Plus/Child Health Plus. However, there are many, many families who are understandably too proud to come for the services they are entitled to, or they don’t believe they are eligible for, while suffering needlessly!
The Boro Park Jewish Community Council Informational evening Symposium on Tuesday August 18 is designed to inform askonim and all the members of the community of their rights and entitlements, to ensure that every member of the community that needs assistance will be helped!

does anybody know if this is for men AND women or only for men?
Dept of Labor? How dare they?
They are the ones that killed all the jobs by making life miserable for the employers, who risked everything they had, to open factories.
Most of our factories have passed on, and 80% of our tangible merchandise and 40% of services are coming from overseas. Now comes the Dept of Labor, to teach us how to cope with this bitter reality?
