Fire Consumes Heavy Portions of West Clarkstown Jewish Center


fire.jpgNew City, NY (Rockland County) – The West Clarkstown Jewish Center was engulfed in flames on Monday night, after a power line fell onto the buildings roof – sending flames shooting as high as 20 feet into the air. The downed power line was a result of a tree falling on the wires during sever storms which swept through the area.

Numerous fire departments were called to battle the blaze, located at 195 W. Clarkstown Road ruined.

According to published reports, the Sifrei Torah were all safely removed by volunteer fire fighters.

Heavy damage is reported on the second floor and roof of the structure.

One fire fighter was treated for smoke inhalation. It took dozens of firefighters from seven towns about two hours to get the fire under control.
