Moti Shalem, the man seen in the video with the shopping cart in the Beit Choron grocery store says “Don’t be afraid for this is our home and we must defend it”.
Shlumit Kreigman HY”D, 24, was murdered in the stabbing attack in Yishuv Beit Choron on Monday, 15 Shevat. Another woman, in her fifties, is recuperating in Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim, listed in moderate condition.
It was first reported the attack occurred in a grocery store in the Binyamin Regional Council district of the Shomron. However, it has since been learned the attackers, who were both shot dead, attacked in a gymnasium and the second victim was wounded outside the gym. They then tried to continue stabbing Jews by entering the grocery store.
Moti Shalem told Kol Chai Radio host Mordechai Lavi on Tuesday morning 16 Shevat he heard the repeated shouts of Ala Akbar and immediately understood these are terrorists. As the store’s security camera shows, he used a shopping cart to repel them, to prevent them from entering the store, realizing they were armed with knives. He then chased after them outside but B”H a community security official shot them both to death before they could wound others.
Moti explained to Kol Chai that “we must all act to defend our homes and the main thing is not be afraid”. When asked if he was afraid, he explained he was thinking about his four-week-old son at home, but knew he had to act.
Lavi asked if he has a new appreciation for life today being that he was unharmed. He stated “yes, for certain and this Shabbos I will recite Hagomeil and I will be davening and putting on tefilin daily from hereon in”.
