Israel’s Anglo-Saxon community sometimes struggle to adapt to their new home. Yedidim gives these families hope through parental guidance and personalized mentoring. Read to learn more and partner with us today.
Today Yedidim launches 24 hour campaign to promote and grow the important work it is doing with Olim in Israel.
“Concerned, Nervous, Uneasy…”
Describes parenting in the best of times.
“Apprehensive, Anxious, Worried…”
Describes parenting in difficult times.
“Panicky, Bewildered, Disoriented…”
Describes parenting in an unfamiliar country, with a different language, a disparate culture, and seemingly insurmountable bureaucracy.
YEDIDIM describes the solution to all the above.
A child who is unhappy or not succeeding seeks happiness and success elsewhere — often in harmful places. This is doubly true for immigrant children in an unfamiliar land. These youth risk abandoning their heritage and leading a dangerously unhealthy lifestyle. Parents want their children to thrive, no matter where they live. When their children slip down a destructive path, they want to reach out, prevent the fall, and give them hope to begin anew. However, parents who have made Aliyah often do not know where to turn nor do they understand the Israeli system. Parents witnessing their child slip away feel devastated, helpless, and may despair of hope.
Yedidim prevents this from happening. Our goal is to help new Anglo parents adapt to living in Eretz Yisroel and realize their dreams without losing their children. Yedidim gives hope to thousands of children and teens each year. Here are just a few of Yedidim’s success stories:
After several therapists failed to help *Devorah open up, her parents reached out to Yedidim for help. When a warm relationship was developed with her mentor, Devorah opened her heart for the first time in her life. She revealed the horrifying experiences of abuse she had suffered as a young girl. With the support and encouragement of her Yedidim mentor, she finally agreed to go for therapy and is moving forward to live a healthy, meaningful life.
Shimon lived with his father in the United States while his mother and siblings moved to Israel. He experienced horrific trauma at the hands of his father while they all lived together, and the abuse continued after his mother moved. Shimon finally decided to move to Israel to be with his mother, hoping to live a peaceful, blooming life. Yedidim was contacted, and Shimon is thriving in his new home thanks to the help of a dedicated memtor.
Sara was kicked out of 9th grade. Due to increasing negativity within her family, she refused to live at home. Yedidim intervened and helped her enroll in another high school and found her a new place to live. After several months of building a relationship with her mentor, her attitude was transformed: by the end of the year, her new principal said that she is a pleasure to have in the school. Today she is a healthy, stable young adult building her own home.

Yedidim is the bridge between the English speaking community in Israel and the educational and mental health system. From making an initial assessment to evaluating the child’s needs, Yedidim helps the family get all the necessary help for their child to thrive in their new home. Here are just a few of the services we offer:
- Professional assessments and referrals
- Individualized guidance for parents
- Aliyah related educational guidance and support
- School referrals
- Parenting lectures and workshops
- Support groups
- Annual Chinuch Weekend Retreat
Whatever services are required, they will receive a dedicated mentor — a “big brother” or “big sister” — who is guided by a professional case manager. The child’s case manager will meet with the parents on a monthly basis to determine how best to help their child and equip them with the tools to support them. This one-on-one, specialized attention guarantees a bright future. This is in addition to the monthly assessment meetings with the mentor.
