Tuesday, June 30, 2009 – Brooklyn – One hundred and twenty of Marine Park’s Frum residents showed up at Caraville Glatt on a stormy Tuesday night to lend their support to Councilman Lew Fidler’s bid for re-election and enjoy and incredible meal catered by Caraville Glatt – the new Essex on Avenue M. The event, billed as a “Re-election Reception for Lew Fidler” was organized by the Marine Park Jewish Political Action Committee. Community members from each of the 15 Shuls in Marine Park were in attendance, as were many other Jewish community members who came from all corners of Brooklyn to show their support to one of the most influential members of the New York City Council.
In his introduction of Lew Fidler, noted askan and renowned political strategist David G. Greenfield, Esq. remarked on how Marine Park has grown over the past ten years from a handful of Orthodox Jewish families to over 900 families, and how Councilman Lew Fidler has embraced his new Frum constituents. “This is a model of what should happen when new people move into an established community. The only option is to work together with the entire community to better the lives of all of the community’s residents.” Greenfield explained. “Councilman Fidler, one of New York’s finest political leaders, has done a spectacular job reaching out to his new constituents while ensuring the harmony within the existing community,” Greenfield concluded. In fact, when the Frum community organized the JCC of Marine Park, Councilman Lew Fidler was the first elected official to step up and provide support for that critical organization that services the entire community.
In his remarks, Councilman Fidler thanked Jeff Leb and Shea Rubenstein of the Marine Park Jewish Political Action Committee for arranging this event and Julie Whiteman and Marine Park resident Meir Whiteman, the co-owners of Caraville Glatt, for generously donating the delicious food and beautiful accommodations for the evening. Councilman Fidler promised to continue to do everything he could to ensure the growth of the community and spoke of his efforts fifteen years ago to keep shuls in Marine Park from closing. Those shuls, which were lying dormant for years, are now being enjoyed by the thousands of frum people who live in Marine Park.
Finally, Councilman Fidler thanked the host committee of the event. The committee members which included Dov Abramowitz, Yaakov Augenstein, Levi Eichenstein, Yitz Ettlinger, Shua Gelbstein, Sholy Greenberger, Tzvi Gross, Zevie Grossman, Menachem Harris, Motty Katz, Ezriel Konstam, Aharon Laufer, Jeff Leb, Michoel Lehrer, Yitzi Orbach, Moshe Rosenfeld, Gary Rokeach, Shea Rubenstein, Heshy Segal, Yossi Sharf, Yanky Sheinhouse, Asher Silverberg, Shauli Singer, Steven Spiegel, Avi Spitzer, Tzvi Traube, Yaakov Ugowitz, Yitzy Weiss and Meir Whiteman, worked hard to ensure what was ultimately a spectacular evening.
