According to information received from Jewish tourists in Vitebsk, Belarus (White Russia) reported in the daily HaMevaser, excavations are taking place in the city’s ancient Jewish cemetery. Asra Kadisha officials were contacted in the hope of halting the excavations.
It has been learned that local officials plan a building on that location, adding that many rabbinical giants are buried in the cemetery. Asra Kadisha and other officials are continuing to probe the matter.

Not in any way seeking to justify the excavations in the Beis HaChaim, it should be pointed out that during the 2005 implementation of the Disengagement Plan, among the warnings from opponents of the government’s diabolical plan was the fact that after Israel destroys a regional cemetery, shuls, mikvaos and yeshivas, it will be difficult to demand a different standard from the nations of the world.
