Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries after an electrical transformer caught on fire and exploded, shutting power to a section of downtown, officials said.
The incident happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. when workers caused the underground explosion after an overload of power at the building of the communications company IDT at 536 Broad St.
There was a loud boom and the building shook, witnesses said. The fire ignited debris and trash and injured three pedestrians.
One person was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, another to University Hospital, while the third was treated and released, said Fire Chief Michael Lalor.

Baruch Hashem everyone is OK. By the way, we are at 520 Broad Street and as of 2:15pm everything in the building is back to normal.
just to clarify, the explosion was NOT on IDT’s property nor was it caused BY IDT workers, but rather, was right outside their building and was caused by PSE&G workers who were working on an underground electrical transformer
Is there even a minyan of IDT people left in the building?
