The FDNY has disciplined seven fire officers for mistakes that contributed to the deadly 2007 fire at the former Deutsche Bank building.
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta says the commanders failed to inspect the site for five months prior to the fire. A fire department rule requires inspections every 15 days.
The commissioner says a captain and a deputy chief would be permanently stripped of their commands. Five other deputy and battalion chiefs have also been reprimanded.
None of them are facing criminal charges.
The fire broke out when the damaged office tower was being demolished.
Firefighters Robert Beddia and Joseph Graffagnino were killed when they couldn’t get water out of a broken standpipe.
