Tens Of Thousands Expected To Visit Ohel of ‘The Rebbe’

rebbe.jpgAs many as 50,000 people are expected to visit the Kever of the late Lubavitcher Rebbe to mark the 15th anniversary since his Petira. Rabbi Menachem Schneerson led the Chabad Lubavitch movement based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for more than 40 years.

He was known as “the rebbe”  to national politicians, city leaders and his followers.

The rebbe was 92 when he was Niftar on Gimmel Tamuz (starting at sundown Wednesday).

COLlive in conjunction with Ohel Chabad-Lubavitch presents a guide to visiting the Ohel for Gimmel Tammuz 5769. Rabbi Abba Refson, Director of the Ohel, requests that all visitors read this guide before arrival, to ensure the day runs smoothly:

Maane Lashons and Tehillims will be available at the entrance to the Old Montefiore Cemetery.

Please come wearing non-leather shoes.

While on line, please use the time to read Maane Lashon and Tehillim.

When about to enter the Ohel, leave Maane Lashon and Tehillim in designated place.

Each person is allowed a maximum of two minutes in the Rebbe’s Ohel. Time should be used primarily for reading the Pan (private letter).

Yahrtzeit candles will be available to light at designated rack once you exit the Ohel.

Parking: Angled parking will be available in designated area only.

Buses
To accommodate the thousands of people arriving, transportation rules will be in effect in proximity to the Ohel. Police have notified that no parking or standing will be permitted near the Francis Lewis Blvd.

Buses will leave from 770 Eastern Parkway to the Rebbe’s Ohel via coach buses all next week, which will travel back and forth.

The price is $10 round trip or $5 for the way back only.

  1. One is not forced to remove their shoes, and it is only among the Lubavitcher chassidim. Also, most non lubavitcher do not remove their shoes. Also, only in Lubavitch did I observe that they tear up the kvitlech after reading them.
