Sullivan County Conservatives Endorse Sheriff Schiff, DA Farrell

mshiff.jpgSullivan County Sheriff Mike Schiff and Republican district attorney candidate Jim Farrell secured the Sullivan County Conservative Party endorsement on Tuesday night.

Conservatives picked Schiff, a one-term incumbent Republican, over Democrats Frank Armstrong and Keith Stephenson.

Farrell, the county’s chief assistant district attorney, got the nod over Bloomingburg attorney Glenn Kroll.

The Conservative Party nomination means the candidates can run on that line as well as the Democrat or Republican line. In the past, this has proved the difference in narrow races.

In the 2005 sheriff’s race, Schiff beat Armstrong even though Armstrong got more votes on the Democrat line (9,059) than Schiff got from Republicans (9,010). Schiff still won handily because he received 1,158 Conservative votes.

Conservatives also endorsed Treasurer Ira Cohen, a Democrat, who is unlikely to face an opponent.

  1. Thank G-D for Mike Long, Chairman of the Conservative Party of New York State, a decent man, who helps keeps the politicians honest.
