The Ulster County Legislature passed a law last night that makes it illegal to send a text message, e-mail or Twitter while driving a motor vehicle.
Lawmakers pursued the texting-while-driving ban because studies showed that cell phone usage impedes reaction time.
It has also resulted in deadly car accidents.
New York state is considering a law that would ban text messaging behind the wheel.
Violators will be fined $250 per violation, or $1,000 if they violate the law while driving in a school zone or highway construction zone.
Ulster lawmakers approved the law 24-4.

thereby denying parnassah to tow truck drivers, body shops, EMS personnel, hospitals, the hevrah kadishah (okay, it doesn’t cost the hevrah kadishah anything if you don’t need their services, but you get the point?).
i knew this was going to happen sooner or later once they banned cellphones
no one’e denying anyone anything, least of all parnassah! how much parnassah can you make if you’re badly hurt, or worse, because you crash whilt texting?!? talking on a cell is distraction enough, even using an earpiece, but texting? emailing? how can anyone possibly watch the road, anticipate problems, DRIVE SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY, if you’re only glancing up from your phone? there are enough horrible accidents, R”L; why potentially cause more? if it’s so important, PULL OVER!
Explain the “denying parnassah” please? I think public safety [“It has also resulted in deadly car accidents.”] takes priority over that, anyhow.;
